that was extraordinary. So he grew up in seeking knowledge in the lands of al-Shām

and in the lands of al-Shām, and his place of upbringing was in Ḥarrān. But when there came

the Tatars, and they invaded the Muslims and slaughtered the Muslims, his family moved

from Ḥarrān to Damascus, and for that reason he is called al-Ḥarrānī

as an attribution to Ḥarrān. So he found the scholars in al-Shām; he studied as a student under them

and took from their sciences.

uprightness, and that he would not take statements as mere transmission; rather

he would present them to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, following closely

in that the very path of the four Imāms, may Allah have mercy upon them: Imām Abū Ḥanīfah

and Imām Mālik and Imām al-Shāfiʿī and Imām Aḥmad. So he follows their way

early age, due to what Allah gave him of abundant knowledge and strength of proof

and presence of memory, from that which amazed whoever listened to him and attended
